Le Road: Crowd surfers, prairie demons
Saskatoon was drunk and rowdy in a crowd-surfing-during-the-heartbroken-ballad kind of way. I believe that was a first for us. And instead of holding up lighters, people held up their empty pitchers. They drink right out of the jug there. Makes for a good crowd.
The Senator Hotel, where we stay every time, is haunted. The walls hiss. This time around they’re renovating, which means the ceiling tiles have been removed in the red rum hallways and there are electrical cords dangling from the ceiling that definitely have a lot of electricity in them. The best part, though, is the really grumpy night man who snapped at me as soon as I walked in the door: “I recognize you—have I kicked you out of here before?” Warren is busy putting together a short film about the hotel, if he’s still alive.
Tonight is our last show with Yukon Blonde, great band, fantastic dudes. Dang.
